Climbing Shoes

Climbing shoes are an integral part of the sport. They literally make your feet feel like an extra set of hands. They are designed with special rubbers and fabrics to ensure quality. And they can cost anywhere from $80.00 on up to $150.00.

Climbing shoes are not meant to be comfortable. In fact it is usually recommended that you buy climbing shoes one or two sizes smaller than your foot size. This is because curled toes give you much better traction on small or friction holds. Remember uncomfortable does not mean painful, its normal for your feet to hurt after climbing but that doesn’t mean you should feel severe discomfort.

If possible, purchase climbing shoes at a larger retailer who may even have a climbing wall onsite that you can sort of test them on. This is a great way to test the shoes out. If this is not an option, bring along a friend who has done some climbing so they can sort of quiz you and make sure the shoes should work out.
